Christmas Pecan Pumpkin Rolls

November 21st Farmers Market

Hello all Scoggins Family Farm customers!! We had a wonderful time at Flea Fest this year.  It was estimated that there were 15,000 people there and I agree with that.  I was overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of people who walked by our stand.  It was a blessing to be able to talk to so many people and to give out tracts.  For those of you who didn't get to go, we will bring our same products this Saturday at Tractor Supply in Moss Bluff from 8-12.  Our family hopes to see you there!!

CANCELLATION OF NOVEMBER 7TH MARKET

Saturday, November 7 th Farmers Market will be cancelled due to weather.  Several local and internet sites have predicted 80-100% rain for tomorrow morning starting at 5 am or so.  We cannot set up our tents in the rain and thunderstorms are predicted also.  We will miss all of our customers!!

November 7th Farmers Market

Hello strangers!! That is how I feel after an extra weekend between markets.  It seems so long since we have seen everyone!  On my last post I said that the fall crops were coming in slowly due to drought.  Does anyone think that has changed????  You need a boat and rubber boots to come visit the farm this week!!  Anyway, we are happy to be back and thankful for the rain.  We will have our own Longville Grown Beauregard Sweet Potatoes this week.  They are sweet!!  We ate a 20 pound sack in 3 days! September 19th Farmers Market

We will be excited to see all of our customers tomorrow at Tractor Supply in Moss Bluff from 8-12!  We lost our Paw-Paw Bo this week and his funeral (we called it his Celebration of Life) was today.  I'm so sorry I'm blogging so late!  I will make the blog short and just say we are bringing the same items to market that we brought to the last market.  No winter veggies are coming in yet. 

The one new item that we are adding is Beautiful, Grass Fed Ground Beef.  We are talking hormone free, antibiotic free meat.  It is awesome!

This scripture convicts me about my mouth (Oh, that evil member as the Lord calls it) that so quickly speaks harshly, angrily, or gossiping.  I pray for the second half of this scripture!! To be kind.  We don't see kindness among the world today.  I would encourage all of us to take just a few seconds and look for someone in need.  A mother in line at Walmart with a crying child, a person trying to merge into traffic, our children; they all just need kindness.... If we call ourselves Christians (CHRIST LIKE) can we say that the second half of the scripture describes us??? I'll chew on that for a while!!! Have a Blessed Day!!

August 15th Farmers Market

July 18th Farmers Market

Wow is it HOT!! We spent today in the purple pea patch cutting the dreaded red weed.  It was too wet during the weeks after planting to cultivate so the weeds were up to 5 feet tall!  It took 6 people, 5 machetes, and a 3 blade hoe to get the job done. The purple hull peas are free to grow!! We are exhausted but smiling at the accomplishment of finishing a tough job. It looks like a few more weeks for the peas.  We will be at the market Saturday with a whole list of goodies!!

May 16th FARMERS MARKET

WOOHOO!!! We have SQUASH, ZUCCHINI , AND CUCUMBERS!!!  We have been harvesting some of these vegetables for about 1 1/2 weeks. The tomatoes are coming along. Today Evan brought in 6 OKRA! The plants are only a foot tall and they are producing!

We love sautéed zucchini and squash with onion, butter, and fresh bacon bits.  It isn't for anyone suffering with high cholesterol but it sure does taste wonderful!

MAY 2nd FARMERS MARKET

Wow! Can you believe it?  A weekend with BEAUTIFUL weather!  We are so excited to go to market!  We don't have enough veggies yet but the cucumbers have provided some great garnish to our salads this week.  Hopefully by next market we will have squash and cucumber.  The tomatoes are still Satsuma size but are coming along.  Potatoes are blooming so that means harvest soon also.  We will be planting Purple Hull Peas and Crowder Peas this next week, Lord Willing. 

We were spared from the horrible hail damage and tornado this past week.  Our neighbors had significant damage all around us.  A local farmer lost his entire nursery of citrus trees, pecan trees, persimmon trees, pear trees and much more!  If you have never grafted a tree, it is a time consuming and tedious skill.  He will re-graft 600 pecan trees!  The life of farming is becoming more real to our family.  We appreciate your prayers!

APRIL 4TH FARMERS MARKET

Hello to all our valued customers! We will be at Tractor Supply In Moss Bluff this Saturday from 8 am to 12. We will have a wide variety of items for this market. We finally got all 500 tomato plants in the ground this week after our long and wet winter. Lord willing we will have tomatoes soon! The squash, bell pepper, banana pepper, eggplant, okra, cucumber, zucchini, and more are already in the ground also. February 7, 2015 Farmers Market

Hello to all of our customers! We had a little break with January having 5 Saturdays in it but we are ready to go now! This is the real deal chicken. I was reading today in a book by Joel Salatin about the chicken industry. These birds are raised in a chicken house that is literally covered with fecal matter. The dust covers everything including the birds. They usually have large respiratory lesions due to the constant breathing of ammonia. It sounded like an awful life. Our birds are in movable chicken tractors with access to clean water, grass and feed 24/7. These birds are never confined and fed antibiotics, hormones, arsenic (this increases their appetite) and artificial light. We hope you enjoy your clean, chemical free chicken from Scoggins Family Farm!!

January 17 Farmers Market

We so miss all of our customers!! Last market was a rain out and we stayed home to enjoy a dreary afternoon reading books and catching up.  We are excited to be back at the market!

The 19 degree freeze took most of the broccoli and cabbage.  We are planting this week but vegetables are not plentiful on the farm in this weather.
